A Foolish Joke

Proverbs 10:23 (ESV)
Doing wrong is like a joke to a fool,
but wisdom is pleasure to a man of understanding.

Foolishness . . . it’s no joke.

April’s Fools

Are you the fool?

  • I play the fool
  • I’m easily fooled
  • I’m nobody’s fool

Proverbs 18:2 (NLT)
Fools have no interest in understanding;
they only want to air their own opinions.

It’s April, and per social media and the news, there’s no shortage of fools.

Sheltering Flight

In the best of times, life is hard in Mozambique, one of the least developed nations in the world. Clean water, food, basic education and heath care are day-to-day challenges. Cyclone Idai’s wind and water swept away what little they had. Thousands upon thousands of people are stranded and desperate.

Mercy Air‘s planes transport needed water, food and medical supplies to functioning airstrips. Their helicopters rescue victims and carry volunteers and supplies into flood zones.

“All of Mercy Air’s aircraft are flying every daylight hour.”

Hear our prayers, Lord, for the people of Mozambique. Protect the personnel  manning these flights and keep watch over the equipment. Strengthen the volunteers and grant them wisdom. Provide the resources for survival. Cover these dear folks with your sheltering wings.

Pray for Work

Ephesians 4:11-12 (NLT)
Now these are the gifts Christ gave to the church: the apostles, the prophets, the evangelists, and the pastors and teachers. Their responsibility is to equip God’s people to do his work and build up the church, the body of Christ.

Lord God, equip me to do your work to build up the church.

Simple Prayers Work

God isn’t impressed by long, fancy words.

Short, simple prayers from a sincere heart are perfect.

Prayer Is Work

“Prayer is . . . climbing up to the heart of God.”
Martin Luther (1483-1546)

Climbing is work. Let’s get started.

Work at Prayer

Practice may not make prayer perfect, but practice makes it better. That’s why so many senior saints pray so well.

Prayer at Work

Do you pray while you’re on the job?

  • I pray the work day will soon be over
  • I pray for my coworkers
  • I pray for our customers
  • Who’s got time to pray?

Sometimes we divide our lives into spiritual and secular: prayer stays in the spiritual realm, work happens on the secular side. That’s not how God sees it.

Colossians 3:23 (NIV)
Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord.

Go to work . . . with prayer.

Shelter the Recovery with Prayer

Historic high waters have devastated Nebraska, Iowa and beyond.

NCN News words it well:

“Please pray for those who are suffering in the aftermath of this storm and flooding. Pray for those who have lost livestock, livelihoods, homes, or loved ones. Pray for farmers who are facing unique agricultural challenges during the rebuilding stage. Pray for the floodwaters to recede quickly, and pray for the months of recovery that lie ahead. Pray for our local leaders and church members in Nebraska and Iowa who are seeking to serve their communities in the days ahead.”

Let us pray.

A Simple Reason for the Season

Ecclesiastes 3:1 (VOICE)
For everything that happens in life—
there is a season, a right time
for everything under heaven.

It’s simple. God plans the right thing for the right time.
