God and Politics

God first, then politics.

“He who surrenders himself without reservation to the temporal claims of a nation, or a party, or a class is rendering to Caesar that which, of all things, most emphatically belongs to God: himself.”
C. S. Lewis (1898-1963)

2nd Place

2 Corinthians 5:20
Therefore, we are ambassadors for Christ.

We are–foremost and eternally–citizens of the Kingdom of God. Our place within national, state and locals boundaries is at best a distant second.

In Short, Be a Good Neighbor

Matthew 22:39
Love your neighbor.

You can disagree with your neighbors’ beliefs or politics and still love them (God doesn’t stop loving you when you disagree with him).

God’s on Both Sides

John 3:16
For God so loved the world . . .

Note:  It does NOT say, “For God so loved the [name of your political  party].

There are believers on both sides of the political aisle. God loves it that way. So should you.

Election Prayers

Do you pray for elections?

  • I pray that my candidates win
  • I pray that Christian candidates win
  • I pray that God’s will be done

The Bible tells us that God worked through Egyptian Pharaohs, Babylonian kings and Roman governors. God doesn’t always work the way we expect.

God’s will be done.

Shelter in a Forgotten War

Christians in the northern region of Myanmar have been suffering the same fate as the Muslim Rohingya in the west–religious persecution. Open Doors monitors persecuted Christians in more than 60 countries and offers this update:

“It has been called ‘a forgotten war’ and is increasingly referred to as flat-out genocide of Christians in Kachin state–because they choose to follow Jesus instead of Buddhism.”

More than 400 villages and 300 churches have been destroyed. 130,000 people have fled their homes.

Watch over your Kachin children, Lord, protect them. Be the shelter for their bodies, souls and spirits.

Wrong and Right

Ephesians 4:2 (NIV)
Be completely humble and gentle.

Humble — there’s a possibility I could be wrong.

Gentle — there’s a possibility I could be right, and nobody likes a know-it-all.

Simply Listen

James 1:19
Be quick to listen.

If you’re doing the talking, you’re not doing the learning.

Blessed Are the Meek

Full of yourself? Nothing.

Empty of self? Everything.

Matthew 5:5
Blessed are the meek,
for they will inherit the earth.

Meek, not weak. Humble, not harsh. Teachable, not proud.
