   I ask your pardon, in advance, for the use of the word ‘damn’; I hope it’s acceptable in context. If not, I apologise.

   It is all or nothing now,
   there’s no going back
   to a place I wondered how
   things could get so black.
   This, now, my constant home
   where demons come to call
   and fire-breathing cancers roam
   through every room and hall.
   And all I have is all I am,
   a grunt too dumb to quit
   who doesn’t really give a damn
   about the end of it.
   I’ll meet the finish on my feet
   to make my death and life complete.
