Winter and Summer

“Christ is not merely a summer sun of the prosperous
but a winter fire for the unfortunate.”

  1. And now must come the winter’s chill,
    and I’m far too hurt to live;
    regardless of my strength of will,
    I’ve not much more to give.
    The cold cuts deep into my heart,
    malicious and so very vain
    to make its face my deepest part,
    there to thus remain.
    I need the fires of the sun,
    and hope’s distant light
    to counter what I fear’s begun,
    the falling of the night.
    Lord, oh please, do send some warmth
    if only from an open hearth.
