Balanced Thanks

1 Thessalonians 5:18 (CEV)
Whatever happens, keep thanking God because of Jesus Christ. This is what God wants you to do.

Thank God for:

Yes and no
More and less
Uncommon and common
Practical and spiritual
Past and present

  1. I’m thankful for the cranberries,
    I’m thankful for the yams
(if they don’t give me dysentery),
and I’m thankful for the ham.
I’m thankful for the gathered friends.
who’ve come to join the feast,
    altho’ that gratitude depends
on not calling Barb ‘The Beast’.
I’m thankful for the crisp fall days,
    as the temperatures get lower,
and some year I will find a way
    to do Thanksgiving in Samoa.
And at the risk of souning quirky,
    I’m thankful that I’m not a turkey.

The reference to Barb comes from an occurrence when we were once out for a walk; a neighbour said, “There go Beauty and the Beast.”

How DARE he call Barb a beast.
