Fear of the Lord.
The love of Christ.
Which motivates you more?
- Fear keeps me moving
- Love inspires all I do
- I’m afraid I lack love
These words jumped out during a recent Bible lesson:
2 Corinthians 5:11, 14 (NIV)
We know what it is to fear the Lord . . .
For Christ’s love compels us.
Do I know what it is to fear the Lord?
Does Christ’s love compel me?
That which motivates me now
is on a different page,
so if I may, I’ll tell you how
I’m hard-defined by rage.
I’ve seen the things the world can do
when decent folk retreat,
and my patience is now through,
and I’ll face God’s judgement seat.
I’ll bring the wrath and bring the flames,
and history will tell
of kicking ass and taking names,
and a hate brought straight from hell.
Let this thought be the monsters’ numbing:
the beast is loosed, and I am coming.
Be afraid. Be very afraid.
(sorry, I can’t think of a rhyming line!)
