The Measure of Your Self-Esteem

How does your self-esteem measure up?

Romans 12:3 (NLT)
Don’t think you are better than you really are.
Be honest in your evaluation of yourselves,
measuring yourselves by the faith God has given us.

It’s not how smart you are, not how much you earn, not what you own. Faith is your measuring stick. And honestly, even that is a gift from God.

  1. I’m not better than I am,
or even better than I was.
Right now, I’m in a jam,
    and self-deception gives me pause.
I saw myself in storied words,
a hero for the life I led,
but it fades, and cancer’s swords
will soon enough see me dead.
    The legacy I leave behind
    is not the noble silhouette.
It’s the bending of the mind
to survival’s will – “Not yet!”
    Reaching for the haughty stars,
    what I got was fitting…Mars.

    • Shirlee Abbott says:

“Not yet,” is divinely written on all our souls–the desire to live, to add another chapter to our stories. But God’s the Author of our lives and records our days before we live the first one of them. The story God’s written through your life, Andrew, is an intriguing and inspiring one.
