Reworked from Matthew 5:44-45
I tell you, love your political opponents and pray for those who say your ideas are stupid, that you may be children of your Father in heaven.
The are folks who think God’s ideas are stupid. God still loves them. Be more like God.
They’re the people of the Calvary road,
mocking, screaming, spitting,
adding hatred to Christ’s load
without an ounce of pity.
Perhaps they are beloved of God,
but so are those they’d kill.
The newborn and the sadly flawed;
the weak, the old, the ill.
Yes, they need my fervent prayer,
and some saint-names should be dropped,
but as I’m sure you’re now aware,
they truly must be stopped.
Of all the shepherd’s jobs, not least
is to take the cudgel to the Beast.
God loves the abused and the abuser–’tis mystery. Thus he calls us to pray for them both . . . for healing of hearts broken and hardened.
On this, my heart may be too hard to heal.
Jeremiah 32:27 – “I am the LORD, the God of all mankind. Is anything too hard for me?”
