I’m thankful for the week that was
though it burned with hell’s own fire
in a body facing mortal laws
and it all grows ever-dire.
I’m thankful for the hopeless dread
and for the stabbing pain
that to God my heart has led
that I might with Him remain.
I thank Him for the bleak despair
that shook my city walls
to a point beyond repair;
they fell, and I hear His call.
It’s only when the old one’s killed
that New Man can yet be built.
