Safe Speech: Dreams

God has the power to speak in places where talk of Christ is forbidden.

“God is moving inside the Middle East with dreams, visions, and personal visitations,” according to Yazim, a church planter. “God will do his part, but we still have to do ours.”
(from The Christian Post)

What is our part? We can pray:

Almighty God, You aren’t bound by the rules set out by men. We pray that You will speak to thousands upon thousands in dreams and visitations. Lord, go to communities and homes where missionaries, the Bible and church services are forbidden. Open their eyes, ears and hearts to Your message of grace. Build Your Church in forbidden places, in Jesus’ name.

His Name

Jeremiah 15:16 (ESV)
I am called by your name,
O LORD, God of hosts.

Are you a Christian? Then you bear the name of Christ.

Wear it well.

In Jesus’ Name

John 14:13 (NIV)
And I will do whatever you ask in my name,
so that the Father may be glorified in the Son.

In Jesus’ name” isn’t the magic phrase to make God do your will. They’re our words of submission as we seek God’s glory instead of our wishes.

Your Name, Short and Simple

Isaiah 43:1 (ESV)
I have called you by name,
you are mine.

God knows your name, and he’s calling you.

Are you listening?

The Best Name

Philippians 2:10-11 (NIV)
At the name of Jesus every knee should bow,
in heaven and on earth and under the earth,
and every tongue acknowledge
that Jesus Christ is Lord,
to the glory of God the Father.

There’s no better name anywhere, any time.

Tarnished Names

Proverbs 22:1 (NIV)
A good name is more desirable than great riches.

How good is your name?

  • Tarnished!
  • Always room for improvement
  • Good as gold

Thankfully, God transforms tarnish to reflect His glory.

Shelter in the Bahamas

Hurricane Dorian and the Bahamas have fallen off the news list. Don’t drop them from your prayer list. Consider this from Jens Laerke from the U.N. Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs, as reported in The Christian Post:

“. . . in the Abaco Islands; the population there is a little more than 17,000 people, we are concerned for all of them. It is now over the Grand Bahama, the population there is about 51,000 people and we are concerned for every one of them.”

God is concerned for every one of these 68,000 souls, and He calls us to share His concern and our resources.

Lord, surround each one in the Bahamas with your love and peace. Provide the needed daily bread and safe shelter through the generosity of those of us securely distant from this storm. Rally the resources, in Jesus’ name.

Still a Student

Matthew 28:19-20 (NIV)
Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you.

Teaching us to obey everything Jesus commanded. Hmmm, I haven’t yet conquered that lesson. How about you?

Students of Prayer

Prayer is practiced together.

We are all students, learning from others when we pray together.

We are all teachers, instructing by example when we pray together.

Acts 1:14 (NIV)
They all joined together constantly in prayer.

Simply a Student

John 14:26 (CEV)
The Holy Spirit will come and help you . . .
The Spirit will teach you everything.

The Holy Spirit–always the teacher.
You–always the student.

Be the best student you can be.
