A Good Story

I love a good story — one with a complex plot, intriguing characters, recurring themes and a happy ending.

The Bible has it all: a complex plot (good versus evil), intriguing characters (folks like Moses, David, Solomon, Esther, Peter and more), recurring themes (lost and found, truth and deception, wisdom and folly, destruction and restoration) and a happy ending (for faithful believers).

John 20:31 (NIV)
These are written that you may believe that Jesus is the Messiah, the Son of God, and that by believing you may have life in his name.

God’s story is a good story.

Spiritual Perspective

Ephesians 3:17-18 (NIV)
And I pray that you . . . grasp how wide and long and high and deep is the love of Christ.

I have tunnel vision, Lord. I barely grasp the surface of the love of Christ. Give me eyes to see from Your perspective.

Are you grounded in perfect peace?
Let your roots sink deep into divine love.

William Law, a Church of England priest, chose faithfulness to God above political favor. Perhaps more of us should follow his example.

Spiritual Strength

Ephesians 3:16 (NIV)
I pray that out of his glorious riches he [God] may strengthen you with power through his Spirit in your inner being.

Picture the Holy Spirit reaching into God’s treasure chest and handing you the glorious gift of spiritual power.

You’ve got it, now use it!

Spiritual Thoughts

This week’s topic is inspired by Warren Wiersbe’s book, Prayer 101: Experiencing the Heart of God. In chapter 20, he asks, “For what am I praying?”

What about you? For what are you praying?

Dr. Wiersbe points us to Scripture, specifically Paul’s words in Ephesians 3, and gives us four requests:

- - Spiritual Strength
  - Spiritual Depth
  - Spiritual Perspective
  - Spiritual Fullness

Not that you can’t pray for healing, wisdom, safety, even sunshine or rain. You can and should. But you won’t go wrong with these suggestions from Dr. Wiersbe and the Apostle Paul.
