Coming Justice and Righteousness

In the end, we’ll account for our justice and righteousness
(or lack thereof).

Jesus is the final Judge. He has the perfect credentials.

Blessed Justice and Righteousness

God calls us to act justly and live righteously.

Where do you fall on the justice and righteousness scale? As for me, I fall a bit short.

OK, maybe a lot short. I’m a just and righteous work-in-progress.

God of Justice and Righteousness

The words “justice” and “righteousness” often appear in the same Bible verse. They go together.

Our God is perfectly just and perfectly righteous.

And it looks like love.

Remember the Heroes

Inspired by the view from Pike’s Peak, Katharine Lee Bates jotted down her first draft of “America the Beautiful” in 1893. The third verse, quoted here, comes from a later version of the poem. It’s perfect for Memorial Day.

Let’s pray for continued mercy, noble success and divine gain.

Listen Wisely

Do you want to be wise? Listen.

Proverbs 19:20 (ERV)
Listen to advice and accept discipline;
then you, too, will become wise.

Listen to whom? God.

Proverbs 2:6-7
The Lord is the source of wisdom; knowledge and understanding come from his mouth.  He gives good advice.

Listen x2

Peter, James and John heard God say, “Listen!”

Mark 9:7
Then a cloud appeared and covered them, and a voice came from the cloud: “This is my Son, whom I love. Listen to him!”

Listen to God the Father. He’s telling you to listen to His Son.

Listen Up

Are you familiar with the story of young Samuel? He kept hearing someone call his name. Wise old Eli realized it was God Himself. On Eli’s advice, Samuel answered the call.

1 Samuel 3:10 (NIRV)
The Lord came and stood there. He called out, just as he had done the other times. He said, “Samuel! Samuel!”

Then Samuel replied, “Speak. I’m listening.”

I wonder — what would we say nowadays?

Speak up, Lord, I’m listening to music.

Not now, Lord, I’m playing my video game.

Oops, my phone dinged.
