Babylon Past

As a consequence of His people’s disobedience, God allowed Babylon to destroy Jerusalem and carry them into captivity. But Babylon’s power didn’t last.

Isaiah 21:8-9 (NIV)
And the lookout shouted,
“Day after day, my lord,
I stand on the watchtower;

 every night I stay at my post.
 Look, here comes a man in a chariot

with a team of horses.
And he gives back the answer:
‘Babylon has fallen, has fallen!
All the images of its gods
lie shattered on the ground!’”

Evil kingdoms rise with God’s permission, and they fall at His command.

Good morning, Lord. I wish we didn’t have to witness evil at work … but that’s for the future, not the present. In the meantime, evil sometimes prospers. It isn’t a surprise to You, O God, and You can use it to make us better people. Grant me the discernment to know what’s evil, and plant my feet on the path of good.
