James 3:9-10 (ESV)
With it [the tongue] we bless our Lord and Father, and with it we curse people who are made in the likeness of God. From the same mouth come blessing and cursing. My brothers, these things ought not to be so.
As I read the news and scroll through social media, curses seem to outweigh blessings. That’s not how it should work.
Good morning, Lord. Keep watch over the words I speak. Put a stop to my curses, inspire more blessings. As much as it depends on me, let me live in peace with everyone (Romans 12:18). Show me how to love those who don’t love me, those who disagree with me and those who walk the wayward path. Teach me to reach out to them with godly grace.

Thank God, He led me long ago to not watch the news. What goes in, comes out…including anxiety, forgetfulness (of God on his throne), and even words. Since all of it is out of my control, I read news article subject lines a few times a week, so I know how to pray. That’s enough for me!
I too have opted to selectively read (not watch) the news. Seeing it as a call to prayer, Carolyn, is a great idea.
Your SPEECH devotions are timely this week Shirlee. Last year I spent months STUDYING “words and tongue”. . God knew I needed this refresher course.
Praying for a good ending of school for you and the kiddos you work with. 😀
“Words and tongue” — fascinating theme for Bible study. Thank you, Becky, for the idea.
