Hard Seasons

“Ye who long pain and sorrow bear,

praise God and on him cast your care,
O praise him, O praise him,
alleluia, alleluia, alleluia.”
St. Francis of Assisi (1182 – 1226)
Paraphrase: William Draper, 1919

Wikipedia’s literal translation of St. Francis’ original Italian (Umbrian dialect) canticle ends with these words.

“Praise and bless my Lord,
and give Him thanks
and serve Him with great humility.”

St. Francis left a legacy of poetic praise. Let’s bring his attitude of gratitude to the hard seasons of our lives.
