The Sins of Our Fathers

We like to think, “It was them, not us.” We prefer to ignore the sins of our ancestors.

        • Slavery and segregation
        • Punishing the innocent, protecting the guilty
        • Corruption and greed
        • Calling good things bad and bad things good

Not just them. Us, too.

Jeremiah 14:7, 20 (NIV)
Although our sins testify against us,
do something, Lord, for the sake of your name.
For we have often rebelled;
we have sinned against you . . .
We acknowledge our wickedness, Lord,
and the guilt of our ancestors;
we have indeed sinned against you.

Confession in good for the soul–our own and the nation’s.
