Ignore or Adore

Don’t ignore the reason for the season.

“O come, let us adore Him,
O come, let us adore Him,
O come let us adore Him,
  Christ the Lord.”
Adeste Fideles
Variously attributed to John Francis Wade (1711–1786),
John Reading (1645–1692) or King John IV of Portugal (1604–1656)
Translated by Frederick Oakeley, 1841

  1. We should not ignore the Christ,
it just would not be proper,
but I’m more open to advice
    from my personal shopper.
There are so many on my list,
    and I’m clueless in the store;
    I have decided to desist
and trust the expert of the floor.
She’ll find exactly what I need
though I must take out loans,
    and she’ll today’s conventions heed:
    no Christian overtones.
I’ll wave to Jesus on the fly,
but there is yet much more to buy.

    • Shirlee Abbott says:

“You that have no money, come, buy” (Isaiah 55:1). I don’t interpret this verse as a call to “charge it!” and “buy now, pay later.” What you so rhythmically describe, Andrew, is what too many people hear. I pray they will give Jesus more than a wave–may they give Him their hearts.
