“Thanks for everything.” You say it to your host and hostess when you leave. What does it mean?
- I enjoyed spending time with them
- They cooked, I ate
- I’m polite
1 Thessalonians 5:18 (NASB)
In everything give thanks; for this is God’s will for you.
It can be quite hard to know
how to give thanks for all,
for cancer’s now my row to hoe,
and it’s a drink of bitter gall.
I try to look upon the side
that’s holy, clear, and bright,
but I don’t know what will betide,
and cannot gauge the fright.
And fright, oh yes, it’s always here
to coldly squeeze my heart
and make me wish that He’d come near
to save me from the coming part
of dissolution, day by day,
that forms the future state of play.
I question God too, Andrew, about your illness. And He brings to mind the wonderful wisdom you put into words. If you were well, you’d be doing more (building airplanes, fighting bad guys) and writing less. I say, “This is over the top, God.” And He answers, “Yes, Andrew’s words go above and beyond.”
Thank you so much for this. Your words are a balm on a very, very rough day.
