“In that name Jesus, slumbers omnipotence. The same power that made all worlds lies hidden in that name. The power that will raise the dead, and make new heavens and a new earth, is in that name.”
Charles H. Spurgeon “The Power of Christ’s Name”
Delivered June 7, 1883
May the name of Jesus empower your prayers.
I’m standing in calamity,
to live is now to dare.
be Thou my indemnity;
Jesus, hear my prayer!
My strength is nearly at an end,
my vision blocked by blood;
come quick, please God, my Friend,
and save me from this flood.
I want to live but know I can’t,
I want to see a bright tomorrow,
but let me be in honour bent,
and let humour meet the horror.
At the end, beyond the fear,
please carry me away from here.
As I read your first eight lines, Andrew, they fell right into the melody for “Lead On, O King Eternal.” Since your words and Mr. Shurtleff’s words are mingling in my mind, I’ll respond with his:
“Lead on, O King eternal,
till sin’s fierce war shall cease,
and holiness shall whisper
the sweet amen of peace.”
Wow! Thank you for this! 🙂
