An Anciet Purpose for Modern Education

“The Scriptures principally teach
what man is to believe concerning God,
and what duty God requires of man.”
The Westminster Shorter Catechism, 1648

Some things never change.

Lord God, may we all–old and young–apply our educations to this good purpose, in Jesus’s name.

  1. Back when they tried to learn me
    how to rite an’ read,
    they plumb forgot necessity
    of what I really need.
I gots to read the Bible,
    others, not so much,
    ’cause they ain’t reliable
’bout God and life and such.
    They learned me ’bout fi-losifers
an’ all them weird dead Greeks
but they was all like saddle-burrs,
    never findin’ what they seeks.
Gimme God, the Kid, and Holy Ghost,
an’ whip me up some beans on toast.
