Romans 8:26 (NIV)
The Spirit helps us in our weakness.
Be specific, God can help:
Help this child learn to read.
Help math make sense.
Help him pay attention in class.
Help her make friends.
Help them get their homework done.

It’s said that men in ancient days
saw purpose in the teaching
of values, and in the ways
to keep from over-reaching.
The things a boy had to learn
were horsemanship and grace;
to be a man, one had to earn
a respected, honoured place.
Today we teach the skills of trade
and knowledge quite arcane,
but these don’t help our social ills;
perhaps the old ways should remain?
Perhaps it’s best not to discard
tradition, in a world so hard.
I tried to teach my sons grace and how to drive a car. Horsemanship I missed. So far, they haven’t complained.
