Matthew 22:37-38 (NIV)
You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind. This is the great and first commandment.
My intentions are good, but . . .
My heart breaks when I don’t get my own way.
My soul is pulled in so many directions.
My mind is preoccupied with foolish fantasies, self-serving excuses and momentary distractions.
If I really, really try,
I may avoid dark fate;
a drop of love may get me by
in a red ocean of hate.
Love is not the hardest task,
it’s so much worse than that!
It’s just so mean of God to ask
this of a sarcastic hipster cat.
I’m really good at put-downs
and zingers are my forte,
but now I sense divine-face frowns
and end up feeling kind of dirty.
OK, You win, I’ll learn to love,
but right now it’s like a proctologist’s glove.
I used excel at the quick, cutting comment. God’s perseverance finally squeezed it out of me (almost!)
I would never have guessed.
