Political Prayer, Done Wisely

“It is easy to criticize and find fault with the conduct of kings, and write furious articles against them in newspapers, or make violent speeches about them on platforms . . . We would exhibit more wisdom if we prayed for them more, and criticized less.”
J. C. Ryle, 1816-1900

Less criticism, more prayer — wise advice!

  1. There’s fault I find with the kings,
    and I shall speak my mind.
    They spend treasure on silly things
    while leaving me behind.
    I can’t afford the insured cost
    that might have saved my life;
    the bulk of that which will be lost
    shall fall upon my wife.
    They said they had a fair programme,
    Affordable Care for all!
    But their self-serving diagram
    was less the crack through which I fall.
    So, sure, for them I shall pray
    that sometime, they shall rue this day.
