You have a choice:
focus on the best memories,
or rehash the worst ones.
Philippians 4:8 (CEV)
Finally, my friends, keep your minds on whatever is true, pure, right, holy, friendly, and proper. Don’t ever stop thinking about what is truly worthwhile and worthy of praise.
There is no room for memories
in that which consumes me now.
No comedies, nor tragedies,
nor even a remembered “Wow!”
I have to guard my every thought
from any wayward rabbit-trail;
freedom’s thus with discipline bought
and triumph with travail.
There’s reminiscence worth the keeping
but my hands are kind of full.
God can take them while I’m sleeping
so my heart won’t feel their pull.
And in the fullness of forever,
we’ll go through them, together.
“Triumph with travail.” Does God do triumph any other way? He specializes in making the best of the worst.
In this case it’s quite a job, but I have no complaints, and would not change a thing.
