of this, the day that was
don’t expect to find a glory
or even a ‘because’.
The pain broke through all I had
and I was kneeling on the floor
with no time to be scared or sad
as I beheld death’s open door.
I lived and tried to pass the word
that though in extremis, I still am;
while they may have listened, darn few heard
and fewer gave a damn.
Perhaps I’ve something to atone;
thus, when I die, I’ll die alone.
Rest assured, Andrew, you are not alone. We who hear and care are many, and our prayers wrap tightly around you.
