Simple Words

Read what Jesus says in the Gospels (Matthew, Mark, Luke and John). He packs huge thoughts into simple sentences.

If God can get his ideas across without big words, so should we.

  1. I don’t care ’bout fancy phrases,
    or the haughty learned talk
that thinks it awes and amazes
    those on a lower walk.
    The fifty-cent vocabulary
is a waste of breath and time
    and fades before the ordinary
    words defined by grime.
The soft hands and softer lips
    bespeak the arrogant privilege
    that by obfuscation rips
    town and hearth and village.
If you can’t just say it plain,
clear out quick; don’t dare remain.
