Morning Prayer: God’s Rhythm of Rest

Good morning, Lord. Thank You for sleep, for dreams, for recharging me body and soul. You hard-wired me for rest, yet so often I try to work against Your plan. Forgive me for thinking rest is a waste of time, for thinking I don’t have time to sleep.

Even when sleep doesn’t come easily, teach me to rest my soul in You, to use the time to commune with You, to praise You and pray.

God’s Rhythm of 2

Day and night, morning and evening, sunrise and sunset–God’s rhythm of 2.

Genesis 1:5 (ESV)
And there was evening and there was morning, the first day.

Evening and morning … seems backwards, right?

Maybe I should start my “day” with a good night’s sleep. That’s how God set it up in the beginning.

Morning Prayer: God’s Rhythm

Good morning, Lord. The world says, “March to your own drumbeat.” You say, “Walk with me and work with me” (Matthew 11:28 – MSG). You made me, You know me. Teach me to march to Your rhythm, the drumbeat You set for me from the start.

God’s Rhythms

The words of Jesus (from a paraphrased version of the Bible):

from John 11:28-30 (MSG)
Walk with me and work with me—watch how I do it. Learn the unforced rhythms of grace.

“Rhythms of grace.” The Lord’s heartbeat.

Are you walking in step with God’s rhythms?

Morning Prayer: For Christ’s Sake

Good morning, Lord. Let me do all the good I can to all the people I can–for Christ’s sake. Let me be an encouragement to those who believe and an example to those who don’t. Let my light shine before others, so that they may see my good works and give You the glory (Matthew 5:16).

For Christ’s Sake

“For Christ’s sake” — all too often used as a curse word. For believers, it’s a blessing. These words should be our motivation.

Colossians 3:17 (MEV)
And whatever you do in word or deed,
do all in the name of the Lord Jesus.

In Jesus’ name.

Morning Prayer: Simply Kind

Good morning, Lord. May I honor You today, not so much in doing some great and godly deed, but through a thousand simple acts of kindness–done for Your glory and not my own.

For Your Sake

You’re busy. All sorts of things compete for your attention. For your sake, I try to keep the message short and simple.

Habakkuk 2:2 (ERV)
The Lord answered me, “Write down what I show you. Write it clearly on a sign so that the message will be easy to read.

Morning Prayer for This Space

Good morning, Lord. I thank You for the people who gather in this space on social media. May it be a place of kind encouragement, not criticism; gentle truth, not deception; humble honesty, not arrogance; eternal hope, not despair; lasting joy, not gloom and doom. Bless us with Your presence, Lord of light and life.

For Their Sake

I write first for the Lord, then for myself–always with the hope my words will encourage others. I trust God to use my work for their sake …

Ephesians 4:12 (ESV)
to equip the saints for the work of ministry,
for building up the body of Christ.

I pray for the folks who read what I write.
