Pray Like an Ox

This week, we’re focusing on the four faces of prayer, based on the faces of the heavenly beings described in Revelation.

Revelation 4:7 (ESV)
. . . the second living creature like an ox.

Oxen do the heavy labor: plowing the fields, hauling the loads, threshing the grain. The faithful saint who prays like an ox carries the day-to-day needs to the throne of grace.

Give us this day our daily bread. Supply our needs.

Pray Like a Lion

I don’t remember exactly who and when, but years ago I learned about four faces of prayer–based on the four faces of the Revelation’s heavenly creatures.

Revelation 4:7 (ESV)
The first living creature like a lion, the second living creature like an ox, the third living creature with the face of a man, and the fourth living creature like an eagle in flight.

If you pray like a lion, you’re a watcher–that is, you keep an eye on what’s happening between us and the horizon.

Deliver us from evil, Lord. Protect us, in Jesus’ name.

Tell My Story

God is writing my story. It’s unique.
because I’m unique.

I love to tell my story. Let me tell you
what God has done for me.

Tell the Children

Psalm 145:4 (NLT)
Let each generation tell its children of your mighty acts;
let them proclaim your power.

My generation should tell the next generation about the power of God.

I’m working on it. How about you?

I’ll Tell

I love to hear God’s story,
and I love to tell it.

Tell Me

I need to hear it.

Then I can tell it.

Tell the Truth

My church has invited a few children who don’t know much about Jesus and the Bible to join us every morning this week. We’re offering fun, food, crafts and Bible lessons. We’re following in the psalmist’s steps:

Psalm 78:2-4 (NLT)
I will teach you hidden lessons from our past—
stories we have heard and known,
stories our ancestors handed down to us.
We will not hide these truths from our children;
we will tell the next generation

about the glorious deeds of the Lord,
about his power and his mighty wonders.

Truth from God’s Word . . . pass it on!

Inspired Intelligence

Predictive intelligence anticipates my words and starts typing them (I’ll choose my own, thank you very much). It’s got me thinking about the Bible.

2 Peter 1:21 (TLB)

For no prophecy recorded in Scripture was ever thought up by the prophet himself. It was the Holy Spirit within these godly men who gave them true messages from God.

The Spirit is the power behind the words in Scripture, and yet each writer’s unique style shines through: David’s beautiful poetry, Isaiah’s interesting images, Mark’s quick action, Paul’s complex thoughts. Inspired ideas, not word-for-word dictation.
