Good Work!

Psalm 19:1
The heavens declare the glory of God;
the skies proclaim the work of his hands.

Golden dawns, wispy clouds, pastel blues, threatening thunderheads, double rainbows, vivid sunsets, winking stars, peekaboo moons. Give God credit. His hands do nice work.

You’re in God’s Hands

Hebrews 10:31 (NIV)
It is a dreadful thing to fall into the hands of the living God.

Isaiah 41:10
Do not be dismayed, for I am your God.
I will strengthen you and help you;
I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.

Either way,
“He’s got the whole world in his hands.”
(traditional spiritual)

We Interrupt Our Regular Programming . . .

. . . for an announcement about a cause near to my heart:

I plan to post once a week about watching what we write, being careful not to frustrate those dear saints who don’t read easily. I do this for two reasons:

1- To let them know that they are welcome here at Souls Under Construction. I promise to KISS (keep it short and simple) — that is, short sentences and simple words.

2 – To remind those of you who whiz through words to watch your words. I’ll try to set a good example.

Stay tuned. There’s more to come.

Listen to God’s Hands

You’re in God’s hands. How do you feel?

  • Safe
  • Comforted
  • Terrified

My feeling is a reflection of my relationship with God. The closer I am to God, the safer I feel in his hands. The closer I am to God, the more I am comforted by his touch.

When I feel God’s presence, I never see his face. But I often sense his hands.

His hand on my hair, turning my head:

Look.

His hand nudging me between my shoulder blades.

Go.

God’s hands speak to me.

Respectful Middle Ground

Lord, I’m mindful of the many moments I’ve failed to show proper respect. Help me find that wide line between cultural compromise and headstrong legalism.

Respect the Image

Take care to respect others. They bear God’s image.

Genesis 1:27 (NLT)
So God created human beings in his own image.
In the image of God he created them.

Follow the Directions

From critical to respectful . . . the Bible tells how–

John 8:7 (NLT)
“Let the one who has never sinned
throw the first stone!”

Romans 12:3
Don’t think you are better than you really are.
Be honest in your evaluation of yourselves.

Matthew 7:12
Do to others whatever
you would like them to do to you.

Remember Respectfully

Respect seems to have gone missing from our culture. Why is that, do you think?

  • Too much self-esteem, not enough selfless service
  • Lack of manners
  • Lack of morals

Folks think that unless you agree 100% with other people’s politics and lifestyle, you can’t respect them. Differ with someone on a single point or discover that the person has a single failing—Boom! Respect is gone.

Newsflash! No one is perfect.

Romans 3:23 (NLT)
We all fall short of God’s glorious standard.

It’s Memorial Day – don’t analyze, don’t judge. Just remember. And respect.

Dignity

Proverbs 31:25 (NIV)
She is clothed with strength and dignity.

Clothed. Not an old cloak casually thrown our worst secrets. No, dignity is God’s under-armor.
