Have Fun with God

What do you do for fun?

  • Commune with nature
  • Party on!
  • Find a comfy corner to relax
  • Head to the mall

Next time, invite God to come with you.

If you can’t have fun with Jesus, you have a problem:  either the wrong idea of Jesus or the wrong kind of fun.

Safe Shelter in Paradise

Hawaii has been hammered: flood, volcano, earthquake. 50 inches of rain in 24 hours in Kauai. Kilauea’s eruption. Repeated earthquakes.

Where do you go when the ground shakes, the mountains explode, the air is thick and water covers the dry land?

Lord, may the people of Hawaii turn first to you. Their land may be unstable, but you, O God, are not. Be their safe shelter and solid ground. May our prayers be their umbrella, the light for their feet, their fresh breath.

Send the help and hope they need. Bless those who respond, those who step out in faith to help.

The first Samaritan’s Purse team has already arrived to help clean up after the flood. Read about it here.

Unity–God’s Way

I confess, Lord, that when I pray for unity, I’m sometimes thinking, “Make everybody do it my way.” Instead, teach me to pray, “Let everybody–including me–do it your way.” As in, “Your will be done.”

Unity: Pray Early, Pray Often

Unity for a Worthy Cause

Jesus prayed for our unity:

John 17:20-21 (NIV)
I pray also for those who will believe in me through their message, that all of them may be one,Father, just as you are in me and I am in you. May they also be in us so that the world may believe that you have sent me.

We should also pray for unity. It’s for a worthy cause (“so that the world may believe“).

Constructive Unity

The theme for our National Day of Prayer is UNITY. What do you think? Where’s unity needed most?

  • In my family
  • In my church
  • In my community
  • All of the above

Shelter with Room to Grow

The 2004 tsunami killed 35,000 people in the island nation of Sri Lanka. A 26-year civil war killed twice that and displaced almost 300,000 people. Habitat for Humanity has helped over 23,000 low-income families build safe shelters.

A typical Habitat Sri Lanka home is 350 square feet, with a larger foundation. When they can afford it, the homeowners expand their space.

Built with room to grow–what a great idea, Lord. We thank you for the present safe shelter for these Sri Lankan families, and for hope built into the bigger foundation. And, Lord God, help us all to grow into the foundations you’ve prepared for us.

Wholly Healthy

“It is not the soul alone that should be healthy; if the mind is healthy in a healthy body, all will be healthy and much better prepared to give God greater service.”
