Fast Time

We used to live near a time zone border. Arranging a lunch date or making a doctor’s appointment, the question was “Fast time or slow time?” It was the only way to be sure what time.

When I was young, every wait was slow time. Now I’m old, and it’s all on fast time

Here’s the catch: God’s got the time, fast and slow:

2 Peter 3:8 (NIV)
But do not forget this one thing, dear friends:
With the Lord a day is like a thousand years,
and a thousand years are like a day.

All in Your good time, dear Lord.

Such Time

Today is Purim, the Jewish holiday celebrating the actions of Esther, who saved her people from Haman’s plan to kill all Jews (as recorded in the book of Esther).

Esther’s uncle asked her to risk all and step up to save her people:

Esther 4:14 (NIV)
And who knows but that you have come to your royal position for such a time as this?

“For such a time as this.” It was no accident Esther was in the right place at the right time.

It’s no accident that you are right here (in this place) right now (at this time). What is God asking you to do?

Lost Time

Early Sunday morning, an hour disappeared. Daylight Savings Time snatched it away. How do you feel about that?

  • Never missed it
  • I want it back!

We lost an hour. Where’d it go? Should we look for it? Can we put it back and set the world aright?

Colossians 4:5 (NKJV)
Walk in wisdom . . .  redeeming the time.

“Redeeming,” in Greek exagorazó: per Bible Hub, to buy up, ransom, to rescue from loss.

I rescued that lost hour Sunday afternoon, with a good nap. All’s right with my world.

Safe after the Storm

A few days ago, tornados did serious damage in Tennessee. Lives and livelihoods were lost, property and peace of mind destroyed. According to MinistryWatch, volunteers have already arrived to help console, clean up and rebuild. Samaritan’s Purse, the Billy Graham Rapid Response Team, Convoy of Hope, and other groups are on the scene.

Phillip Dunn, pastor of First Baptist Church of Mount Juliet, which lost people and property, said this:

“Our greatest loss is always people, not property. We believe in God’s promises and all of us just really believe that this is the time to just let our light shine and love our community, put our arms around them. Buildings can be rebuilt; most importantly, we want to touch lives for God’s Kingdom, and this is an opportunity to do that.”

Let’s take this opportunity to lift up the people of Tennessee:

Lord, we pray for the folks in the storm zones:
comfort those who lost loved ones,
cure those who were injured,
heal those who were traumatized,
shelter those who lost their homes,
empower those who step up to help,
in Jesus’ name.

Viral Rain

“The coming revival must begin with a great revival of prayer. It is in the closet, with the door shut, that the sound of abundance of rain will first be heard.”
Andrew Murray (1828-1917)

May the sound of abundant rain* go viral in prayer closets around the world!

*See 1 Kings 18:41-46

Viral Revival

For the 40 days of Lent, I’m praying for revival, a spiritual awakening.

Psalm 85:6-7 (TLB)
Oh, revive us!
Then your people can rejoice in you again.

Pour out your love and kindness on us, Lord,
and grant us your salvation.

Let’s pray for a viral revival.

Viral Faith

Going viral is when a link, video or image spreads rapidly over the internet.

What have you seen go viral?

        • humor
        • gossip
        • political opinion
        • crazy stuff

Next up to go viral? I’m praying it’s faith in Christ.

Psalm 105:1 (CEV)
Praise the Lord and pray in his name!
Tell everyone what he has done.

Tell a friend. Share the good news!

Safe from Pan[dem]ic

COVID-19 has not been officially declared a pandemic. Is it time to panic?

According to Science News:

“The last time that the WHO declared a pandemic was in 2009, for a then-novel H1N1 strain of influenza, which some researchers estimate infected 1 billion people in the first six months, and killed hundreds of thousands in its first year. By comparison, over 2,700 people have died from COVID-19 since it emerged in December.

“The Spanish Flu of 1918 is the worst pandemic in recent memory; it claimed the lives of at least 50 million people worldwide from 1918 to 1919.”

What does the Bible say?

Isaiah 49:10 (NIV)
So do not fear, for I am with you; do not be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you; I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.

Panic, no. Pray, yes!

I will not fear bad news, Lord, because You are in control.
I will not fear travel restrictions, because You are always with me.
I will not fear shrinking investments, because You are my treasure.
I will not fear sickness, because You are my healer.
I will not fear death, because You are my life.
I am safe in Your hands.

Fast Right

Isaiah 58:6 (NIV)
Is not this the kind of fasting I have chosen:
to loose the chains of injustice
and untie the cords of the yoke,
to set the oppressed free
and break every yoke?

Fasting done right makes you a better person and the world a better place.
