Eat Right

When does fasting become anorexia? When does feasting cross the line to gluttony?

1 Corinthians 10:31 (VOICE)
Whatever you do—
whether you eat or drink or not
do it all to the glory of God!

How little is too little? How much is too much?

When it’s too little for God and too much about me.

Eat Well

Nervous?

Don’t worry. God’s got this. He’s watching over you. He’ll take care of you.

Psalm 23:5 (CEV)
You treat me to a feast, while my enemies watch. You honor me as your guest, and you fill my cup until it overflows.

Sit up to God’s table. Take a deep breath and a big bite.

Eat well!

Shared Feast

Luke, author of the book of Acts, tells us that the first Christians ate together.

Acts 2:46 (VOICE)
They were unified as they worshiped at the temple day after day. In homes, they broke bread and shared meals with glad and generous hearts.

Food shared with glad and generous hearts is always a feast.

Earthly Feast

Exodus 23:16 (MEV)
You shall observe the Feast of Harvest, the first fruits of your labors, which you have sown in the field. You shall observe the Feast of Ingathering at the end of the year, when you have gathered in the fruit of your labors from the field.

Go ahead. Eat your fill.

“God has certainly made in this world provision for man’s feasting…Lord, thou didst not give simply dry bread and water
for mankind, but thou hast filled the earth with plenty.”

Charles Haddon Spurgeon
A Merry Christmas, delivered on December 23, 1860

God is good.

Lifelong Feast

Revelation 2:7 (VOICE)
Let the person who is able to hear, listen to and follow what the Spirit proclaims to all the churches. I will allow the one who conquers through faithfulness even unto death to eat from the tree of life found in God’s lush paradise.

“Eat from the tree of life.” I can’t imagine a better feast–anywhere, any time.

Best Feast

Revelation 19:7, 9 (NIV)
For the wedding of the Lamb has come,
and his bride has made herself ready . . .
Then the angel said to me, “Write this:

Blessed are those who are invited to
the wedding supper of the Lamb!”

Jesus is the Bridegroom, and the Church is his bride. During Lent, as we focus on Christ’s death, we sometimes miss the long view. As you fast (if you fast), remember–the best feast is yet to come. And you’re invited!

No Feast

Jesus told this story:

Luke 14:16-18, 24 (NIV)
A certain man was preparing a great banquet and invited many guests. At the time of the banquet he sent his servant to tell those who had been invited, “Come, for everything is now ready.”

But they all alike began to make excuses . . .

Then the master told his servant, “I tell you, not one of those who were invited will get a taste of my banquet.”

You’re invited to a feast. It’s the chance of a lifetime. Don’t miss it.

Coming Feast

Isaiah 25:6 (NIV)
On this mountain the Lord Almighty will prepare
a feast of rich food for all peoples.

There’s gonna be a feast! Are you ready?

Mature Taste

Can you taste the difference between good and evil?

Hebrews 5:12-14 (NTE)
You need someone to teach you the basic elementary beginnings of God’s oracles. You need milk, not solid food!  Everyone who drinks milk, you see, is unskilled in the word of God’s justice; such people are just babies. Mature people need solid food – and by “mature” I mean people whose faculties have been trained by practice, to distinguish good from evil.

No Taste

Do you make godliness taste good?

Matthew 5:13 (MSG)
You’re here to be salt-seasoning that brings out the God-flavors of this earth. If you lose your saltiness, how will people taste godliness?

Tasteless? I hope not!

I want to be salty, Lord God, in Jesus’ name.
