Seeds and Weeds

Jesus followed the parable of the sower with the parable of the weeds.

Matthew 13:24-26 (NIV)

The kingdom of heaven is like a man who sowed good seed in his field. But while everyone was sleeping, his enemy came and sowed weeds among the wheat, and went away. When the wheat sprouted and formed heads, then the weeds also appeared.

The field owner lets the wheat and weeds grow together, knowing it will all get sorted out in the end.

It’s hard to tell which seeds are good. I might be watering some weed seeds, just sayin’.

Seeds and Me

Christ’s parable of the sower–

It raises two questions:

  1. What kind of ground am I?
  2. Am I careful where I sow?

My Words

Teach me, O Lord, to watch my words.

Teach me to ask, “What would Jesus say, text, type, think or treasure?” Teach me to do likewise.

Your Thoughts

Think this:

Philippians 4:8 (ERV)
Think about what is true and honorable and right and pure and beautiful and respected.

Not this:

What is rumored, skeevy, wrong, nasty, ugly and rude.

Think positive.

My Words, My Thoughts

I tend to believe my words and thoughts are my own, and I can do with them as I want.

Better to believe I should do with them as God wants.

Our Words

Words have power.

Proverbs 12:18 (CEV)
Sharp words cut like a sword,
but words of wisdom heal.

Our words have the power to hurt or the power to heal. Let’s use our words wisely.

God’s Eyes

God has his eyes on my words.

That’s something to think about.

Grant Me the Spirit of the Lord

Here’s a timeless prayer for the touch of the Spirit.

The Isaiah 11 passage has inspired prayer throughout the ages. It should inspire us too.

The Spirit of the Knowledge and Fear of the Lord.

The Hebrew word for knowledge comes from the root word yada. Yada is to know well, to have a close connection, to be intimate friends. It’s a two-way connection—to know and to make oneself known.

Psalm 139:1-2 (NIV)
You have searched me, Lord, and you know me. You know when I sit and when I rise;  you perceive my thoughts from afar.

God knows us better than we know Him. He even knows our thoughts — and, truth be told, that’s a bit scary. Good thing we know He loves us.

The Spirit of Counsel and Might

Got trouble? Need advice?

Psalm 20:1, 6 (ESV)
May the Lord answer you in the day of trouble . . . Now I know that the Lord saves his anointed;  he will answer him from his holy heaven  with the saving might of his right hand.

Look to the Spirit of counsel and might. There’s no better help to be had.
