Time to Fast

Jesus said when, not if.

Matthew 6:16 (NIV)
When you fast …

Is this your time to fast?

Good morning, Lord. Sometimes I give up something for Lent, sometimes I opt to do something extra. My goal is spiritual growth and a closer relationship with You. What would You have me do or not do over the next six weeks? Your will, not mine, be done.

Would you be willing to reveal what God has told you to do or not to do this Lent?
Food is always the thing that traps me with its lies and condemnation and winking gestures. I have sought over and over, with varying degrees of success/failure to be set free from this idolatry. Maybe this time.

This is the third year that I’ve added something to my schedule for Lent: prayer for a specific person … taking care to write the prayers in my notebook, looking beyond the current circumstances and focusing on their spiritual wellbeing. In truth, I miss a few days of writing, but I pray consistently. It’s been a different person each year.
