A Living Sacrifice for God

How do I know God’s will for me?

By letting go.

Romans 12:1-2 (ESV)
I appeal to you therefore, brothers, by the mercies of God, to present your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and acceptable to God, which is your spiritual worship. Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewal of your mind, that by testing you may discern what is the will of God, what is good and acceptable and perfect.

When I was young, this was a common saying: “Let go and let God. ” It’s still good advice.

Good morning, Lord. There are things I’ll never know and understand this side of heaven. But I don’t have to know it all to know that You are good. Teach me to lay aside my plans and trust You. I want to let go and let You take charge.

The question is, how do you let go?

For me, it’s been a life-long learning process. Deliberately spending more time in Bible study and prayer helps. I’m learning to distinguish the nudge of the Spirit from the call of the world. Sometimes, I learn the hard way — in hindsight, I realize I ignored God’s gentle whisper and wound up with a mess I could have avoided. Other times, I obey and enjoy the peace that passes understanding.
