Broken-Hearted

Psalm 51:17 (NLT)

The sacrifice you desire is a broken spirit.
You will not reject a broken and repentant heart, O God.

Other versions of this psalm say contrite, penitent, truly sorry, humble, sorrowful. If I’m honest, those words rarely describe my heart.

Good morning, Lord. Break my heart for what breaks Yours — be it the sin of the world or my own sin. Teach me to rejoice in good and mourn evil. Grant me the discernment to know wrong from right. May I be truly sorry for my sin, confessing and repenting with an honest, humble heart.

  1. Melinda Bensler says:

I ask the Holy Spirit to poke me when I say or think or do something that is sinful but I seldom get that poke. I don’t think it’s because I’m so righteous. I fear I am so preoccupied with myself and my life that I am oblivious to the presence of Holy Spirit.

Ah yes, Melinda. I’m often oblivious. Thankfully, God is persistent and keeps nudging.
