I have always liked the hymn Come, Thou Almighty King (anonymous, published in 1753). Let’s focus on verse 3 and the Spirit:
“Come, holy Comforter,
thy sacred witness bear . . .”
The Holy Spirit bears witness? You bet!
Often, He witnesses through Scripture, making it personal:
-
-
- I am fearfully and wonderfully made (Psalm 139:14)
- I’m a sinner saved by grace (Ephesians 2:8-9)
- God is the Author and Finisher of my faith (Hebrews 12:2)
- I am a child of God (John 1:12)
- God works through me (Philippians 1:6)
-
All this, and more. His witness comforts me.
