Sorting Them Out

I’m trying to have an honest conversation with myself about racism.

I thought about my ten years in the Medical Staff Office of a hospital. Certainly, I sorted doctors into categories:

        • Specialty–surgeons, internists, radiologists, etc.
        • The old guard and the newcomers
        • Those who never missed a deadline, those who needed a nudge, and those who had to be nagged

Even though I was the keeper of information on their ethnicity and education, it wasn’t on my radar. There was no time for that.

Stop judging based on the superficial.

There was work to be done.
