January 6, Epiphany.
What’s it to you?
- Not much
- The 12th day of Christmas
- The Wise Men arrive
- Time to take down the tree
This 12th day after Christmas traditionally celebrates the Magi’s worship of the Christ child.
Matthew 12:1 (NIV)
After Jesus was born in Bethlehem in Judea . . . Magi from the east came.
Magi (in Greek magos) were priests of the Persian religion, wise men who made careful study of the stars. They came “from the east,” likely Persia, now known as Iran.
So today, in religious tradition and current events, we see Iran. Keep her people in your prayers.
Sorry I’ve been absent. Hard days.
And so the Christmas season ends
in the bright glow of Epiphany,
standing arm-in-arm with friends
beneath an angels’ symphony.
The ancient visions were fulfilled,
and now the clock is running
toward when the Saviour must be killed,
and the Easter dawn is coming.
The rhythm matches what we see,
and what we see is worth the keeping,
for in liturgical mystery,
comes planting, then the reaping.
What we glean is what God’s sown,
and in that we are His own.
I am learning to embrace this “liturgical mystery.” It is, as you say, “worth the keeping.”
Glad you are back, Andrew. When I don’t see your words, I pray all the more.
I sure appreciate the prayers. This is a transit of the abyss.
