James 3:17 (NIV)
But the wisdom that comes from heaven is first of all pure; then peace-loving, considerate, submissive, full of mercy and good fruit, impartial and sincere.
Picture a train: the engine is pure, uncontaminated, holy. The caboose is sincere, with no hidden agenda or unpleasant surprises. In between are the boxcars of peace, gentleness, obedience, and mercy–every inch filled with goodness, leaving no room for sin or evil.
It’s wisdom’s train of thought. All aboard!
I hear it coming down the track,
God’s great wisdom train.
I would board, but needs go back
for I forgot my brain.
Where I put it, that’s a worry,
it’s years since it’s seen use.
But if I find it in a hurry,
I may catch the caboose.
Now I feel the ground a-shaking,
my chance is passing fast.
I’ve got to find a way of faking,
and now the die is cast.
I jump and swing aboard, in hope,
with a papier-mache frontal lobe.
Made me smile, Andrew. I used to tell my sons to retrace their steps and find where they left their brains. The comment earned me a smile, but not necessarily wiser behavior.
I’ll take good cheer above wisdom, any day! 🙂
