Which Road?

Christ spoke gently on the road to Emmaus. He acted forcibly on the road to Damascus. Where do you find yourself?

  • the road to Emmaus
  • the road to Damascus

On his way to Damascus, Saul was knocked to the ground and made blind. At Emmaus, Christ’s followers listened, saw and understood.

Luke 24:31-32 (NLT)
Suddenly, their eyes were opened, and they recognized him [Jesus] . . .

They said to each other, “Didn’t our hearts burn within us as he talked with us on the road and explained the Scriptures to us?”

  1. There is a road on which I walk,
not one I might have chosen,
but one need do more than talk the talk
    on the Via Dolorosa.
    Every step’s like lifting lead,
    and every step’s uphill
to that place where I’ll be dead,
    once upon a kill.
    Friends excuse themselves, fade away
because it’s just too hard to see,
and since the end’s known anyway
there’s a better place to be.
    It’s atonement of a special kind;
    ruined body, and full-healed mind.

    • Shirlee Abbott says:

“Ruined body, full-healed mind.” I’m sorry about the ruined body, Andrew, but I rejoice in your healed mind. Our culture encourages healthy bodies but ruined minds–you show us the antidote.
