There will be a fire. Will your work survive?
1 Corinthians 3:11-13 (NIV)
And no one can ever lay any other real foundation than that one we already have—Jesus Christ. 12 But there are various kinds of materials that can be used to build on that foundation . . . There is going to come a time of testing at Christ’s Judgment Day to see what kind of material each builder has used. Everyone’s work will be put through the fire so that all can see whether or not it keeps its value, and what was really accomplished.
They say that what we lose in flame
in the ashes we shall find;
a treasure, or even your good name,
for nowt’s truly left behind.
Flame’s a test that we must face
even though we flinch and quail
for in fear there is a grace;
in its mastery, God’s tale.
Lean over the glowing coals
and do not turn away
for in them you may see the goals
of tomorrow’s yesterday.
If in trust you’ll bare your feet,
you’ll walk safe across the ember’d street.
“For in fear there is a grace.” What a beautiful phrase, Andrew!
Thanks, Shirlee!
