Good Reason for Study

“The Bible will keep you from sin,
or sin will keep you from the Bible.”
Dwight L. Moody, 1837-1899

(this guy was so good at Bible study, the school he stated has been teaching the Bible for 130 years)

  1. I’m not sure Moody’s right. Some of the best Christians I ever knew – hard men who died for their faith – came to the Bible because the weight of sin in their lives was too great to bear.

Were they perfect after that (and was I)? No. The Bible didn’t keep my dead friends or me free from sin, but it preserved the upward yearning.

And I have to believe, for them and for me, that it was and will be enough. God will do the rest.

I’m not disagreeing with your experience, Andrew. But I do think the more one reads the Bible, the less one sins–never reaching perfection this side of heaven.
