A Mother’s Will and Prayer

Do you remember the story of the rich young ruler, the one who asked Jesus how to inherit eternal life? Jesus knew that money stood between our young man and his eternity:

Mark 10:21 (CEV)
“Go sell everything you own. Give the money to the poor, and you will have riches in heaven.”

But the man couldn’t do it.

What if his mother had been praying that he’d let loose of worldly riches and seek God with his whole heart? What if she’d prayed, “Your will be done, Lord.” Would that have changed the outcome?

  1. This is profound, Shirlee. I never thought about that before. You are a wise mama.

    • Thank you, Jeanne. I try to pray a Biblical principle into my boys’ lives every day. I should have done it when they were young–but as my Father used to say, “we grow so soon old and so late smart yet.”

  2. I’ve always wondered about the ending of the story; we know the young man went away sad, but did he work his way through the sadness and sell everything? We’re not told, perhaps because it’s his story, and not ours.

I’d like to think he did.
